Recovering from the Holiday Hustle: 5 Essential Tips for a Stress-Free Transition

Do you ever feel December is like a race car? It just continues to accelerate, accelerate, and accelerate.

Then you wake up on the 26th and it’s like somebody slammed on the brakes. You no longer have a to-do list, and you feel a little lost.

You may ask yourself, “How am I supposed to relax after spending every waking moment consumed in the holiday chaos?”

Well, here are five tips for coming down from the holiday hangover.

Tip 1: Re-establish a routine

The holidays have a way of throwing us out of our routine. Our days become hectic, and we lose our stability.

Reclaim your stability and prioritize what's important for your recovery. Maybe it's getting a solid eight hours of sleep or enjoying balanced meals.

Tip 2: Choose high-value foods

After indulging in sugary holiday treats, give your body the energy it craves with nutrient-packed foods. Fuel your body and mind for a fresh start.

Tip 3: Organize Your Space

After the 25th, you may feel like Christmas is spilling out of every drawer, cupboard, and closet. It’s hard to relax and be at peace when your space is overcrowded and cluttered.

Grab a garbage bag, set a timer, and play some dance music as you clear away the wrapping paper and clutter. Find spots for your Christmas gifts and organize your space for a peaceful mind.

Tip 4: Prioritizing Yourself

The holidays are a joyful time to be with family and friends and host fun parties. However, after spending so much time supporting others, it is important to prioritize yourself.

After spreading holiday cheer, it's time to focus on self-care. Set boundaries, say "no" when needed, and enjoy some quality "me" time. A good book and herbal tea, perhaps? (That’s my favorite!)

Tip 5: Spend Time Outdoors

Whether you had a snowy or sunny Christmas, step outside! Nature, Vitamin D, and gentle movement are your allies in recovery. Take a neighborhood walk or explore a local trail.

As you embark on your journey of holiday recovery, remember these tips, and remember to go at your own pace. Life is not a race, so take time to rest, recharge, and cherish each moment.
