Unlocking Your Potential: The Power of Your Thoughts

You are What You Think

You’ve heard the age-old adage, “You are what you eat.” Let me propose a new one for you to consider, “You are what you think.”

That last phrase is a powerful insight derived from an inspirational James Allen quote: “A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”

So, it's true. "You are what you think." The thoughts you have depict the kind of person you are. If you constantly think negatively or pessimistically, your demeanor and character will reflect that.

You Can Change Those Thoughts

But here's the incredible thing: you can change those thoughts if you don't like them. You can choose your thoughts. And I know what you might be thinking, "How do I choose thoughts? They just pop into my head!"

I believe the first thought that pops into your head is the one you've already conditioned yourself, or by others, to think. However, to follow that first thought up with a more helpful second thought is how you create change.

You have to retrain your brain and reframe the way you think about things. If you don't like what you're thinking, then change the channel. Choose a new thought.

Thoughts Become Perception

As Allen continues his thought, "A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses. Thoughts become perception. Perception becomes your reality. Alter your thoughts. Alter your reality."

See! That's exactly what we're talking about. Change the channel in your brain, and you'll change your reality. You'll change how you perceive the world.

Let’s Apply

Now, let's make this actionable. How can you change your thoughts and perceptions? Let me provide you with a scenario:

When my niece was in high school, she developed the nasty habit of telling herself that she was stupid or dumb whenever she made small mistakes (first thought). But was she stupid? Not at all!

One day, she realized that she had started to believe it (perception), and she wanted to change that. To help change her thoughts, she began putting up sticky notes around her room with affirmations like "You are smart" (second thought) and similar encouraging notes.

The continual reminders on her wall and the additional support from her mom helped her to change her thoughts. Now, when she had little mess-ups, she no longer berated herself as stupid. Instead, she viewed them as learning experiences, recognizing that they were not a big deal (altering reality).

What Works for You?

You too can find what works for you! Try putting up positive sticky notes around your house or setting up encouraging reminders on your phone at different times. Don't be afraid to ask people for help! If you make a genuine effort, you truly can change your thoughts, change your character, and ultimately change your reality.

So, why wait? Start today by consciously choosing your thoughts and reshaping your perception of yourself and the world. Embrace the power within you to transform your mindset and unlock a brighter future.

Take the first step towards a more empowering mindset. Start by making a commitment to yourself. Write down one positive affirmation that resonates with you and place it somewhere you'll see it every day. Then, challenge yourself to replace negative thoughts with this affirmation whenever they arise.

Remember, you have the ability to shape your own reality through your thoughts. Seize this opportunity to create a life filled with positivity, growth, and limitless possibilities. Embrace the power of your thoughts and watch as they pave the way for a more fulfilling and successful journey.
