Why Prioritizing Yourself Daily Boosts Your Energy and Joy: A Simple Self-Care Practice
There is one important question that I ask myself everyday. And no, it’s not, “What am I going to wear today?” Though I ask that question too. After a busy day of work I always take the time to ask myself this important question.
“What did I do for me today?”
This question has taught me the importance of prioritizing myself. I’m alive to experience life and feel joy, not solely to serve others.
Don’t get me wrong, serving loved ones is a beautiful part of my life. However, I’ve realized that if I don’t intentionally set aside time for myself, I start feeling drained, and my ability to show up for others diminishes.
Serving myself doesn’t have to be something big. Sometimes it's sitting down with a book for 10 minutes, going for a short walk, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea. What matters is that it’s my time—no guilt, no distractions, just me.
When I ask myself, "What did I do for me today?" it’s a reminder that I deserve moments of joy and relaxation, too. We’re all so busy trying to balance work, relationships, and responsibilities, but the truth is, if we’re not taking care of ourselves, it’s impossible to give our best to others.
So, I encourage you to ask yourself the same question. Make it a daily practice. Find what brings you joy, what recharges you, and make space for it. You’ll find that by honoring yourself, you’re better equipped to be the kind, present, and joyful person you aspire to be for others.
Remember, you are worthy of the same care and kindness you offer to the world.
