Holiday Softness: How to Stay Kind to Yourself When Life Feels Loud
Holiday Softness: How to Stay Kind to Yourself When Life Feels Loud
During Christmas time this is on a 24-hour cycle in my brain:
Jingle bells, jingle bells…save 30% off this must have item today…did I get a gift for that person…countdown to Christmas is on!
All of that on repeat is SO OVERWHELMING. And I think I can pretty confidently guess that your brain sounds like that too. December can be overstimulating with all of the parties, deadlines, and expectations.
We could truly drive ourselves mad with all of those to-dos if we don’t remember to embrace ourselves and each moment with softness and simplicity.
Now listen closely, we’re not doing less for the sake of it. We’re doing less because we’re choosing what really matters and letting the rest go. Here are a few ways to use softness and simplicity to protect your peace this season:
Choose simple rituals over perfect routines
Instead of elaborate plans, lean into moments that ground you. Turn on the lights of your tree before opening your laptop, take five deep breaths before bed, or grab a warm drink and watch outside your window.
Left softness guide your self-talk
When the to-do list grows faster than you can keep up, notice the tone of your inner voice. Replace “I should have done more” with “I’m doing enough for today.” Replace “I’m not as fun or cool as that influencer mom” with “I make special moments for my loved ones that make sense for us.” Softness isn’t weakness, it’s self-trust.
Redefine “festive”
You don’t have to attend every event or have the most decorated picture-perfect home. You don’t need the “Ralph Lauren” Christmas aesthetic. Festive can look like pajama days, quiet dinner, or laughing with friends over store-bought cookies.
This season, give yourself permission to slow down and savor what’s real. Rest and self-kindness are what carry you through the holidays with intention, not exhaustion.
