Main Character Energy Meets Self-Kindness: Rewriting Your Story
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to be the “main character” in my life. Not in a self-centered way, but in a self-aware one. The kind of main character who knows the plot twists, learns from them, and keeps showing up with compassion and courage.
For a long time, I looked back on my past with a mix of embarrassment and regret. I cringed at choices, mistakes, or moments that I wish had gone differently.
But now, I’m learning to reflect with grace and a sense of humor. Every chapter, even the messy ones, has shaped who I am today. My past isn’t a burden; it’s a backstory.
To me, being the main character means embracing both visibility and vulnerability. It’s allowing yourself to be seen as you are, while keeping your boundaries strong and your values clear. It’s standing tall in your truth, even when it feels uncomfortable.
You can chase big goals and stay soft with yourself. Main character energy isn’t about being flawless or fearless; it’s about being real. It’s knowing that your story matters, your growth counts, and your voice deserves to be heard.
Two simple ways to live that out:
Rewrite your inner dialogue. When your inner critic shows up, try responding as the supportive narrator–one who cheers for your growth instead of replaying old scenes.
Set scene boundaries. Choose what (and who) belongs in this chapter of your life. Protect your energy like it’s part of your storyline.
So as the seasons continue to shift and the world slows down, take a moment to ask yourself: what chapter are you ready to write next?
