Lucky Girl Syndrome vs. Self-Belief: How to Actually Create Your Own Luck
I am sure you’ve heard of “lucky girl syndrome” on social media. It’s a cute and fun manifestation that can add a seed of confidence.
Everyone talks about being lucky. How they were “lucky” to get their dream job or “lucky” when it comes to a particular talent. I have nothing against feeling so filled with joy that you feel lucky.
However, it’s important to note that “luck” is not what brings us to where we are. Most of the people we deem as “lucky” or who say they are “just” lucky often are people that:
Trust themselves
Speak kindly to themselves
Follow through consistently
Protect their energy with boundaries
Luck is preparation meeting self-belief.
There is nothing wrong with feeling lucky and participating in “lucky girl syndrome” because self-belief shapes behavior! The important distinction is that we’re not doing “magical thinking” and giving all the credit of our success to luck.
Self-belief, partnered with positive self-talk changes our perception of risk-taking because we no longer see it as a possibility for failure. We see it as a possibility for learning and succeeding. Taking risks and seeing them play out can boost our confidence.
This March, we are building our self-trust with small daily actions that we can keep working on the whole year.
Here are 3-steps to creating your own luck:
1 - Catch Negative Self-Talk. If you wouldn’t talk to your friend or loved one like that, you shouldn’t be talking to yourself like that.
2 - Replace Negative Self-Talk with Grounded Optimism. We aren’t floating off into an imaginary world, we are practicing optimism that keeps us focused and reminds us of past successes.
3 - Take One Small Aligned Action. Whatever that action is, whether it’s aligning you with a goal or with a new effort, take a step toward that—no matter the size.
Self-belief, self-trust, and confidence can make you feel like the luckiest person on earth.
